theSHOW is Velocity’s Sunday scholarship presentation and faculty performance experience. It brings the Regional weekend together by celebrating our dancers, recognizing scholarship recipients, and giving everyone the opportunity to watch Velocity faculty, assistants, and selected dancers perform on the main stage.
For Junior, Pre-Teen, Teen, and Senior dancers, theSHOW takes place after the final convention class on Sunday. Exact performance times and locations will be included in each city’s final event schedule.
What Happens During theSHOW?
- Performances by Velocity faculty and assistants
- A special performance featuring dancers selected through theSHOW Selection class
- Scholarship presentations for the Junior, Pre-Teen, Teen, and Senior age divisions
- Recognition of dancers selected for Velocity and industry partner opportunities
- A final opportunity for dancers, teachers, and families to come together before the Regional weekend concludes
Petite and Mini scholarship recipients are recognized separately in their ballroom immediately following their final classes on Sunday.
theSHOW Selection
theSHOW Selection will appear on the Saturday convention schedule for Teen and Senior dancers.
This is not an audition. The class is taught and structured like a regular Velocity convention class, allowing dancers to focus on learning, growing, and enjoying the experience without the added pressure of an audition environment.
During the class, the faculty member or choreographer will select a group of dancers to perform a piece with them during theSHOW on Sunday.
Selections are made at the discretion of the faculty member teaching the class. Dancers may be considered based on their connection to the choreography, work ethic, performance quality, adaptability, and overall participation during the class.
What Selected Dancers Can Expect
- Learn additional choreography with the faculty member and Velocity assistants on Saturday evening
- Attend a rehearsal on Sunday morning before convention classes begin
- Perform the completed piece during theSHOW on Sunday
- Work more closely with Velocity faculty and assistants in a focused rehearsal and performance environment
Rehearsal times and locations will be provided directly to the selected dancers and their registered studio teachers. Selected dancers must be available for all scheduled rehearsals and the Sunday performance.
A Closer Look at the Professional Process
theSHOW Selection gives Teen and Senior dancers an opportunity to experience a rehearsal process that is different from a traditional convention class.
Selected dancers must learn material efficiently, respond to direction, make adjustments, work alongside dancers from other studios, and contribute to a finished performance within a limited amount of time.
The experience allows dancers to connect with Velocity faculty and assistants on a more personal and professional level while gaining a better understanding of the collaboration, responsibility, and preparation involved in bringing choreography to the stage.
Most importantly, theSHOW Selection is meant to be an exciting addition to the Velocity weekend. Whether or not a dancer is selected, the class remains a full convention experience created to challenge, inspire, and support every dancer in the room.
